Does SLS cause canker sores?
SLS doesn’t cause canker sores in everyone. For people who get them repeatedly, SLS-free toothpaste may reduce how often or how long they occur, based on limited evidence.

If you get canker sores often, you have probably read that sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) in toothpaste might be a trigger. A systematic review of four small crossover trials found a possible benefit from SLS-free toothpaste for people with recurrent sores, and called for better studies.

What else can trigger them?
Minor mouth injuries, stress, certain foods, and some nutritional or medical conditions. The ADA suggests avoiding hot, spicy, or acidic foods while a sore heals.

01 How long should I try SLS-free toothpaste?
There is no proven timeline. Because canker sores come and go, a single sore-free week tells you little. If you get them often, keep a simple log for a couple of months to see whether frequency changes.
02 How should I brush with a canker sore?
Use a soft brush, go gently around the sore, and avoid scraping it. A lower-foam paste can make it easier to control where the paste goes.
03 Why does toothpaste sting my canker sore?
Mint oils, menthol, and flavoring agents can irritate open tissue. If One+’s mint stings, brush gently and rinse with water afterward.
04 Are canker sores the same as cold sores?
No. Canker sores form inside the mouth and aren’t contagious. Cold sores are caused by a herpes virus and usually appear on or around the lips.
05 Will One+ cure my canker sores?
