Best fluoride-free toothpaste.

The best fluoride-free toothpaste is one that replaces fluoride with something, tells you how much, and lists every ingredient. Many fluoride-free pastes simply leave fluoride out. Others add hydroxyapatite, and only some of those publish the percentage.

Keep fluoride if

You get cavities often, have a prescribed fluoride product, or your dentist recommends it.

Fluoride-free may fit if

You and your dentist decide it's reasonable, and you want a hydroxyapatite paste with the dose on the label.

Try both if

You want hydroxyapatite and your dentist wants fluoride. Many people use each at a different brushing.

In the US, a fluoride-free toothpaste can't make that claim. Some studies of hydroxyapatite pastes have measured cavity outcomes, but they tested other formulas.

04 Is fluoride-free toothpaste good for kids?

05 Is natural toothpaste the same as fluoride-free?

No. Many natural-positioned brands sell fluoride toothpaste, including Tom's of Maine and Native. Look for an active ingredient on the Drug Facts panel.
